NOTE: Paul Kirk Jr 2025 - I've taken notice of this particular puff jar base since the 1990s. They show up somewhat regularly with metal tops for either a puff jar or hair receiver. Judging from the lids I've seen on them (I have one that is very Art Nouveau influenced), they date in the c. 1905-1920 timeframe.
Possibly made on contract to silver plate companies.
