NOTE: Brad Gougeon: For many years this "Butterfly" basket was attributed to the Hemingray Glass Company but we now know that was incorrect. It has two patent dates on the bottom. The oldest is the 1874 Kirchner patent assigned to Atterbury which covered the handle. The later date patent is unassigned (per the patent office) and covers mold technology that allows for a turned over lip that is made in the mold and not hand crafted afterward.
