NOTE: Brad Gougeon: For many years this "Butterfly" basket was attributed to the Hemingray Glass Company but we now know that was incorrect. It has two patent dates on the bottom. The oldest is the July 21, 1874 William Kirchner patent assigned to Atterbury which covered the handle. The later date patent is unassigned (per the patent office) and covers mold technology that allows for a turned over lip that is made in the mold and not hand crafted afterward. Atterbury - documented through patent.
NOTE 2024: ...patent for "Pickle Dishes" that he promptly assigned to Atterbury & Co. The patent claim was actually about a molded handle over a dish. Atterbury used that patent to its fullest extent and all of these pieces shown here have that patent date on the bottom.
