RUNNING DEER WITH SEATED HUNTER ETCHING (AKA) by Unknown Glass Company for Etchings No. 1 (Unknown Location, Operated: Unknown), c1880s Introduced
NOTE: The Running Deer with Seated Hunter Etching is a very busy circumferential etching wrapping all the way around the goblet bowl. The scene starts with a snoozing hunter seated on a stump or a rock being watched by a large rabbit. As we work around the goblet, we next see a kneeling hunter firing his rifle at a running deer being chased by a dog. There are two birds flying away from the hunter above the deer’s haunches. For the purposes of my research the firm that did this etching has been designated as U1 i.e. Unknown 1. They were very prolific and there are about 30 etchings that can be assigned to them.
