JOHN A. MACDONALD tumbler (OMN) dgc by Diamond Glass Company (Montreal-Canada, Company Operated: 1890-1903), 1890 Introduced
NOTE: Sid Lethbridge 2021: Sir John A Macdonald was the first Prime Minister of Canada. He held that office from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 until his death in 1891.
In December 1890, W. G. Beach, manager of the Diamond Glass Works in New Glasgow, wrote a letter to MacDonald requesting permission for “carving your profile in a mold to produce the same in relief on a glass.” The response to Beach was “No Objection”. The otherwise ordinary tumbler to the right might well be the embodiment of this request because there is an image of Sir John A. Macdonald pressed into the base.
