CRYSTALLOGRAPHY BEER MUG (AKA) rgw by Riverside Glass Works (Wellsburg-WV, Company Operated: 1880-1899), 1880s Introduced
NOTE: Sid Lethbridge 2022:[This mug] is 5-1/8" tall and 2-3/4" diameter with a different scene on each side of the mug. The scenes show cherubs have a good time imbibing beer from a big cask. Under them the barrel head is marked RGW 1880.
The January 29, 1880 edition of the Pottery and Glassware Reporter had a long article on the new Riverside Glass Works factory in Wellsburg, WV. In part it mentioned that "It is the purpose of the managers to make a full line of table ware, bar goods, etc., with the crystallograph as a specialty. In the latter they are making a beer mug of a very handsome pattern, uniquely decorated." The beer mug posted here is believed to be the one mentioned in the article.
