HEMINGRAY BIRD PICKLE (AKA)
• AKA:
Unknown Maker (Unknown Location, Operated: Unknown), Introduced: 1876 Introduced
• NOTE: Brad Gougeon: The bird pickle is the subject of debate and conjecture. The paper trail points to the Hemingray Glass Company BUT it is found in a all of the Atterbury colors. Hemingray collectors used to point to the butterfly basket and leaf pickle as proof that Hemingray also made those colors but both pieces have been documented to be Atterbury.
NOTE: Sid Lethbridge:Design patent D8942 was issued February 1. 1876 to Julius Proeger of Pittsburgh who assigned it to Robert Hemingray of Covington, Kentucky. The term of this patent was 7 years. It is somewhat unusual that it was assigned to an individual not a glass company. It is possible that Mr. Hemingray sold or licenced his rights to Atterbury. Or, Atterbury waited until 1883 to start making the bird
