DEER AND CASTLE ETCHING (AKA)
• AKA:
Unknown Glass Company for Etchings No. 1 (Unknown Location, Operated: Unknown), Introduced: c1880s Introduced
• NOTE: Sid Lethbridge - The Deer and Castle Etching is unusual in that it is a single etch with a detailed scene that wraps all the way around the bowl of the goblet. Depending on which part of the scene is facing front, you can see a stag, a castle or a doe. This etching can be found on a water pitcher in the aka Tree Stump pattern. For the purposes of my research the firm that did this etching has been designated as U1 i.e. Unknown 1. They were very prolific and there are about 30 etchings that can be assigned to them. Ref.
