MONKEY SWINGING ETCHING (AKA)
• AKA:
Unknown Glass Company for Etchings No. 1 (Unknown Location, Operated: Unknown), Introduced: c1880s Introduced
• NOTE: Sid Lethbridge - The Monkey Swinging Etching was likely inspired by an engraving of the Lar Gibbon shown in “The Illustrated Natural History, Mammalia” written by Rev. J.G. Wood in 1865.
For the purposes of my research the firm that did this etching has been designated as U1 i.e. Unknown 1. They were very prolific and there are about 30 etchings that can be assigned to them.
