The state is known as the Volunteer State after its participation in both the War of 1812 and the Mexican-American War in 1846.
NOTE: 2021: Note that the stippling of the lettering consists of tiny stars-- an early researcher counted the stars in the "O" and found 72. offered in crystal, green, canary, Dewey Blue, and possibly other colors-- the ad is obscured.
