ZZ UNIDENTIFIED NO. 788 [tree trunk vase]
• AKA:
UNIDENTIFIED MAKER, Introduced: Unknown Date
• NOTE: Johnathan Farris - an art historian's answer: While I do not know the origin of this object, the broken stump and the climbing ivy are clearly mortuary imagery. The broken stump symbolizes death (or even more specifically a strong person's vigor cut off), while the climbing ivy (which is evergreen) symbolizes everlasting life. Similar imagery can be found on Woodmen of the World grave markers.
